Kerala Aila (Mackerel) Curry with Kuppa (Tapioca)
½ kg fish, cut into medium size pieces-I used Mackerel
¼ teaspoon fenugreek seeds
1 ½ teaspoons ginger - garlic crushed into a fine paste
5 small onions-minced/crushed
A few slices of raw mango
Mix together using a little water:1 ½ tablespoons kashmiri chili powder ,1 ½ tablespoons coriander powder and ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 piece cocum/kudampuli
1 sprig curry leaves
Salt
2 tablespoon coconut oil
Water
Soak cocum in a little water for about 10 minutes.
Cut and wash cleaned Mackerel-rub with a little turmeric and set aside.
Heat a little oil in a manchatti / pan.Reserve about a teaspoon of oil.
Splutter mustard and fenugreek seeds.
Add crushed ginger garlic paste .Stir for 3-,4 minutes.
Add onion and curry leaves. Saute till it becomes soft. Put in the masala paste, salt .
Add the water, cocum, mango and fish.Swirl the manchatti around so as not to break the pieces of fish.Adjust consistency by adding more water.
Simmer on a low flame, till the gravy thickens.
Pour coconut oil over fish-serve with boiled tapioca-or the plump red rice!
Tapioca
Cut tapioca into 4-5 pieces-easier to peel a cut up tapioca!
Chop into small pieces.Pressure cook in a little salted water.Drain.Mix with a little grated coconut optional)Serve with fish curry…
