Dal Gosht

Dal Gosht
Mutton ¾ kg, washed
Onion 2 coarsely sliced
Tomatoes 2 chopped
Chana dal ½ a cup soaked in warm water for about 2 hours
Garlic 3-4 cloves
Ginger 1 teaspoon grated
Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
Red chilli powder ½ teaspoon (or more)
Garam masala ¼ teaspoon
Turmeric powder ½ teaspoon
Salt
Oil 4 tablespoons
Water 1+ 1 cup
Pressure cook together the mutton, onions, tomato, garlic, ginger, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and salt in 1 cup of water .(The water should just cover the mutton-if you feel it’s less add a bit more). One does not want to overcook the mutton, as it has to be cooked with the dal too. Open lid in about 10-15 minutes when it should be ¾ done.
Add the oil and cook on medium heat till masalas are blended well. Add chana dal and 1 cup water, allow to cook till dal is just done* and mutton is tender. You don’t want a mish mash of the dal. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot!
*For the easy way out and to make sure that the dal is not overcooked, microwave the soaked dal (1 cup water to ½ cup soaked dal) on high for 6-8 minutes).
